About the event
A periodical event which promotes regular, systematic but most of all voluntary blood giving among the local community of Wrocław and the Lower Silesia region.The event is organised by the Polish Red Cross in Wrocław, the Regional Blood Donation and Blood Treatment Centre in Wrocław and Marek Łuszczki – a journalist, publicist and a TV producer.
This year’s edition was the 5th to have taken place in Wrocław.
The list of the invited guests includes so far: Krzysztof Zanussi, Kinga Preiss, Jerzy Skoczylas, Katarzyna Obara.
On a stage erected on the Marketplace local artists performed till late afternoon. The special guest of the last year’s 4th edition was Jarosław Kret, a popular national TV presenter.
Next to the stage, volunteers were giving blood in a field hospital erected by the Polish Red Cross and the Regional Blood Donation and Blood Treatment Centre. During each of the four editions, 50 to even 60 litres of blood were donated within just a few hours.
Future events will be similar in nature and character.
During the on-stage performance a short TV coverage of what has been going on is recorded and then broadcasted on a chosen local TV station. All the participants – the blood donors – have a chance to not only help all those who are in need of blood.
There is a drawing of lots organized especially for the donors at the end of the on-stage performances where any of them may win a prize. The goal is indeed noble. We want to promote the idea of voluntary blood giving at a time when we lack permanent donors – at the start of holidays.
An actually measurable effect of the enterprise is an increase of permanent donors recorded by the Regional Blood Donation and Blood Treatment Centre in Wrocław. The event is always held under the honorary auspices of the President of Wrocław, the Marshal of Lower Silesia and the Governor of the Lower Silesia region.
Each year the event is sponsored by small, medium and large companies, mostly from Wrocław and Lower Silesia but also from outside of the region.
